We had a rather one-sided encounter in the afternoon, but that was made up by a crazy run-fest in the night to close out Saturday. We'll be back in Rawalpindi tomorrow as the Qalandars face the Gladiators. Do join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
David Warner: Fantastic to get the win, but more importantly the welcome I and the team had on this ground was amazing. We have a never give up attitude, no matter what happens. Even if we lose wickets in the powerplay, we need to keep going. We knew it would be easy to bat in the start, because later it could be a bit tricky with the dew coming. We felt 200 would have been par, but they had wickets in hand so we felt they ended a bit below par. We wanted to keep going despite losing wickets in the powerplay. Those two gentlemen (Khusdil and Vince) were amazing, I knew that if we get a partnership like that in a big chase, we'll get it. We lost both of them in the end, but Abbas did enough. We need to keep working hard, it won't be easy on a wicket like this which will be easy for batting. There's a lot of work still to be done with our bowling and fielding plans.
James Vince | Player of the Match: Quite a tough chase, but when we batted we realised how nice a surface this was. Luckily, whenever we needed a boundary we found it. The way Khushdil batted was also great. When the rate gets beyond 15-16, the game gets away from you at any game. So the way Khushdil attacked CJ when the rate was climbing was amazing. I did the hard work so would have been nice to stay till the end, but we bat quite deep and that helps in chases like this.
Mohammed Rizwan: It was tough for bowling, the ball was getting wet. It was swinging a bit early, had that not been there we could have got 250. But credit to the opposition as well. I knew the field was fast and the ball was travelling, and dew didn't help us as well. Our execution wasn't up to the mark, that's why they were able to chase 234. There were a few misfields and that hurt us, we shouldn't have allowed them to get these big partnerships.
23:41 Local Time, 18:41 GMT, 00:11 IST: Karachi were poor with the ball and in the field, but they turned up nicely with the bat to start this edition of the PSL with a victory. Multan will look back and wonder what went wrong, they piled up a monstrous score, but as things in Hyderabad a short while showed, no score is enough for the chasing teams in T20s nowadays. Chasing 235, the hosts lost three wickets quickly and were then reduced to 79 for 4 when Khushdil Shah walked out to join James Vince. In the space of the next 67 balls, they added 142 runs for the 5th wicket to take their team very close. Both fell when the victory line was in sight, but they'd done enough to douse Multan's late comeback. A hundred, one of the best from Vince and an equally good 37-ball 60 from Shah, ensured that the Kings have points on the board. The team which batted slightly better won on the night, but we've been feasted to 470 runs in a little under 40 overs of manic hitting
Jordan to Abbas Afridi, SIX, drilled, and that's the win for the Karachi Kings, Afridi was staying deep and Jordan once again missed out on the yorker, a slot delivery and it's nonchalantly lofted over long-off for the winning hit. Punches the air and screams in delight. David Warner is jumping in joy like a teenager in the dugouts, he almost can't believe how his side have pulled this off. A famous win for the Karachi Kings to kick off their PSL 2025.
Jordan to Abbas Afridi, no run, fuller length delivery on the pads, Afridi looks to flick and gets an inside edge to mid-wicket
Chris Jordan [3.0-0-42-0] is back into the attack
They need 5 off the last over - Jordan to bowl for the Sultans
Akif Javed to Irfan Khan, 2 runs, a top-edge, but it pops up towards the vacant mid-on region and they're back for the second - Irfan was shaping for the paddle and was undone by the skiddy bounce
David Warner looks very edgy in the dug-out
Akif Javed to Irfan Khan, 2 runs, a misfield from Ifthikar and it's cost them a second run, on a good length and just outside off, caressed to deep point whee the fumble happened
A mandatory concussion test and that gives Sultan the chance to have a quick chat
Akif Javed to Abbas Afridi, 1 run, a top-edge and the ball lobs behind a desperate dive from the fielder at backward point, he ran to his lefgt and then threw himself at the ball, but it was always bouncing wide of off. A quick short ball and Afridi is rushed for pace, gets a top-edge that lobbed onto the helmet and could have gone anywhere
Nerves jangling everywhere - Akif, from round the wicket
Akif Javed to Abbas Afridi, 2 runs, back of a length and just outside off, Afridi swings hard and gets a thick inside edge towards mid-wicket, they're quick to come back for the second
Abbas Afridi, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Akif Javed to Khushdil, out Bowled!! Dragged on! Karachi have lost both wel-set batter and Sultans believe they're back in the contest - back of a length and just outside off, Khushdil swung hard, gets a thick inside edge and the ball clatters into the off-pole. Khushdil played a lovely hand, but he needed to stay until the end for his team. Khushdil b Akif Javed 60(37) [4s-5 6s-4]
Akif Javed to Khushdil, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
Akif Javed to Khushdil, wide, short of a length and well wide of off, Khushdil throws his hands on the cut and missed, called as a wide
