A convincing performance from the defending champions and they've started this edition of the PSL in style. We will be back later today for a double-header and it should be a lot of fun. Do join us for Game 2 as the Zalmis start against the Gladiators. For now, cheers and bye..
Shadab Khan | Islamabad United captain: T20 cricket, you need to execute the plans and the bowling was very good today. I worked so hard on my bowling, if I do well as a bowler, it only benefits my team. It came out well, hopefully it stays long, for both the team and for Pakistan as well. I think you need to rest as well, we don't have international cricket and are playing PSL. Hopefully, we'll get some form when we go back to play for Pakistan. Pindi has been an amazing stadium, the crowd love and support us, it's our opportunity to do well and give the love back to them.
Jason Holder | Player of the Match - Been a good start, great to have some fun in Pakistan, great franchise, they've been very welcoming to me. I was able to assess it early, the opening pair did well, the pitch did play true, but we came back well during the middle part of the innings. You stick to a particular process, the execution was good and that brought us wickets. If you keep executing well, bowl according to the plan, the pressure does give you wickets. My favourite ball was the yorker, I think it caught Wiese napping a bit.
Shaheen Afridi | Lahore Qalandars captain: I feel toss doesn’t matter in the game, it was the first game so it’s not the end of the world, we will give our best in the next game. First game is always tough for every team, we will try to improve in the next games. Really happy for Shafique, he is the future of Pakistan cricket and happy for Asif Afridi as well, he is a brilliant bowler. I can’t say anything about them, they (Islamabad United) are the best. We always talk about positive things and hopefully, we will bounce back in the next game.
00:00 Local Time, 19:00 GMT, 00:30 IST: A comprehensive victory and the defending champions are off the blocks in style. This win was set-up by their bowlers as they restricted a strong LQ batting line-up to a meagre 139. They lost Andreis Gous cheaply, Sahibzada Farhan struggled initially, but managed a run-a-ball 25, before the experienced pair of Colin Munro and Salman Agha took over. They hardly put a foot wrong (except for one reprieve for Salman Agha on 2), kept getting the boundaries regularly and eased their team to the winning post with a 56-ball 80-run unbeaten stand. The Qalandars were clearly second best, with the bat, ball and in the field as well and hardly looked like giving a fight. Islamabad have started well and it's a one-sided start to this season's PSL.
