It can be said that Andrew Ellis, the Christchurch born all-rounder, didn't quite live up to expectations during his brief stint at the highest level of the game. Despite an impressive all-round game, Ellis was strangely considered to be a short-format player and featured in 15 One Day Internationals and 5 Twenty20 internationals for his country.

Ellis's exploits for Canterbury at the domestic level got him a much deserved call-up against the visiting Zimbabweans during the 2011-12 season and made his ODI debut in Dunedin, making 33 in his maiden innings. Unfortunately for the all-rounder, that remained his career-best score. He passed 20 only twice later on and a string of low scores coupled with the emergence of talents like Corey Anderson and James Neesham, literally ended his career.

Ellis though remains as a go to player and an inspiration for the Christchurch based Canterbury Kings in all forms of domestic cricket.
