Gujarat Giants Women vs Delhi Capitals Women, 17th Match - Live Cricket Score, Commentary

DCW 177/5 (20)
GGTW 178/5 (19.3)
Gujarat Giants Women won by 5 wkts
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Harleen Deol

Giants win = UP Warriorz eliminated. RCB find themselves in a spot of bother as well. They now need to win their remaining (two) fixtures, and also improve their NRR while at it. As for Mumbai (2 games left) and Gujarat (one game left), one win is all they need to seal a spot in the playoffs. Just 3 league games left and 3 teams in contention for 2 spots. Plenty of excitement in store then. Do remember to tune in for all those games. Cheers and goodbye for now!!

Harleen Deol | Player of the Match: Very pleased. I was trying to play till the end, I knew that there were plenty of big-hitters to come. When you bat with Beth is is very easy, she hits boundaries and takes singles as well. You just have to be alert because she is very alert while taking singles and you just have to close your eyes and run. When you bat with the other power strikers like Dottin, you just need to take a single and put them on strike. I know she (Kashvee) is very good at hitting sixes, the ball she hit for six and I just told her that Shikha is bowling straight and the ball is keeping slightly low, so told her to shut her eyes and swing down the ground. When you are scoring runs and the team is winning, that is what you dream of. Can't ask for anything better.

Ash Gardner: We did a good job with the ball to peg them back, we knew it was a par score on this surface. Different people stood up today. Meghna, I was so pleased for her. She puts in a lot of effort in the nets and its good to see her get the rewards. It was just strategy to not bowl myself, people who bowled did a good job and I wasn't needed. Harleen played different roles throughout the tournament and she was able to adopt very well. She struck the ball beautifully tonight, it was awesome to see her play positive cricket.

Deandra Dottin: I was really confident (when I walked out to bat), once I step onto the field I know that pressure is on DC, it is just about taking advantage of the situation. I played a bit too early and I would have definitely gone for it again (talking about the shot that got her out). I think we played superbly and the girls are in good nick and they are hungry and what we continue to do is play fearless cricket and stay confident.

Meg Lanning: We knew it was gonna be a difficult game tonight, credit to the Giants, they put us under pressure and played well in the end. With dew coming in, I felt we were 15-20 short. It was nice to contribute tonight, but would have loved to get the win. Fielding is gonna play a crucial role in the tournament,. the effort was there tonight and we got a few days to reset and looks like it is going to be exciting the next few days. It's about putting your best foot forward whether it is the eliminator or the final.

22:52 local, 17:22 GMT: This is what can happen when you keep wickets in hand for the back half of the chase. The Giants were 75/1 at the halfway stage, needing just over 10 RPO for the final 10 overs. Mooney got out trying to force the pace in the 12th over, but the batters that followed did well to not put any pressure on the senior partner Harleen Deol. Gardner with a 13-ball 22, Dottin with a 10-ball 24 and although Litchfield got out for a golden duck, the intent was there for everyone to see. Harleen played her best WPL knock and to her delight, it came in a winning cause. She was 21 off 19 at one stage, but did well to dig deep and find timely boundaries to stay in touch with the required rate. There were a couple of fielding blips from the Capitals, and the presence of dew did not help their cause either. Stick around for the post-match reactions...

19.3

Jonassen to Kashvee Gautam, 2 runs, drilled down to long-on and a fumble from Sutherland enabled the second run. Gujarat Giants win three in a row as they move to the second spot. They win by 5 wickets with 3 balls to spare.

19.2

Jonassen to Harleen Deol, 1 run, another sweep and this time Jemimah gets around to keep it down to a single...

19.1

Jonassen to Harleen Deol, FOUR, quicker and just outside off, Harleen runs down the track and goes hard on the sweep, Jemimah puts in a desperate dive and tries to hurl the ball back with her palms, no dice!

Jonassen is on a hat-trick. The Giants need 7 off the final over...

18.6

Shikha Pandey to Kashvee Gautam, SIX, there is the pressure releaser. Kashvee Gautam gets a slot ball on the stumps and she has dispatched that over deep mid-wicket with an air of authority. She set herself deep in the crease and cleared the ropes by some distance

18.5

Shikha Pandey to Harleen Deol, 1 run, another slower ball outside off and Harleen goes for the slogsweep over mid-wicket, gets a thick top-edge and it drops well short of the incoming fielder. Niki was the fielder at deep mid-wicket on that occasion...

18.4

Shikha Pandey to Harleen Deol, no run, second dot ball of the over. Slower delivery bowled wide of off, Harleen advances and mistimes the drive back to the bowler

18.3

Shikha Pandey to Kashvee Gautam, 1 run, back of a length outside off, Kashvee heaves it off the thick inside half to the right of long-on

18.2

Shikha Pandey to Harleen Deol, 1 run, 104ks full on off, Harleen slogs to the right of deep mid-wicket

18.1

Shikha Pandey to Harleen Deol, no run, good length on off at 104ks, Harleen stays on the back foot and punches back to the bowler

Shikha Pandey [3.0-0-22-2] is back into the attack

Kashvee Gautam, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Just 3 big hits is what the Giants should be thinking as they need 16 off 12
