RCB have come out all guns blazing this season. They ended their winless drought in Chennai recently and now they have conquered Wankhede after ages. The intent and the zeal of their batters to take the game on has worked to perfection for them. Kohli has more or less flourished as an opener while the others around him have played the attacking game. Their bowling has also come to the fore unlike in a lot of other seasons. MI, on the other hand, have problems of plenty to deal with. They have always been slow starters but losing four games out of five poses a lot of challenges for them going ahead. They need to get their act together if they are to script a comeback. That's it from our side for tonight. Tomorrow, a double-header is coming your way. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for some scintillating action. This is Abhinav Guha signing off on behalf of Abhinand Raghavendran, Raju Peethala, Siva and Venky. Until next time, goodbye and cheers.
Rajat Patidar | Player of the Match: That was a really amazing match. the way the bowlers have shown courage, it was amazing. To be honest, this award goes to the bowling unit because it's not easy to stop a batting unit on this ground, so the credit goes to them. The way the fast bowlers executed their plans was great. The way Krunal has bowled was amazing. In the last over, it was not easy, I think the way he has bowled and the courage he has shown is amazing. At that time, it was clear that we have to take the game deep. So, the discussion was to take the game deep and use KP's one over at the last. The wicket was good and the ball was coming on nicely to the bat. After the Hardik Pandya over, I went all out. The wrist spinner is one of the main bowlers because they are wicket-taking and the way he (Suyash Sharma) bowled was great.
Krunal Pandya: The bond that we (Hardik and I) have, we knew there was only one Pandya that was supposed to win, the love and affection we have for each other is very natural. He (Hardik) batted really well and I feel for him, but we (our team) won and that is most important. When I came onto bowl, Santner was batting and leg side was shorter and the amount of games I played here in the last 10 years, at some point the experience had to come in. As a bowler, sometimes you want to commit and it is important to commit 100 percent and it helps in execution. Andy (Flower) and I were there for 2 years in LSG and it was good to know Andy from personal space and the way we are going as a team, we are in a very good head space. Rajat has been terrific in the way he has started and he gives you the confidence and backs your game plan as well. He is very calm and does not complicate things. Jitesh has been terrific, he has improved his game and the game awareness he has while batting is top-notch. With the gloves he has always been exceptional. I just want to keep my head down and keep winning.
Hardik Pandya: It was a run-fest. The wicket was really good. I was just talking about that to myself that again we fell short with two hits, I don't have much to say. (Was 221 par or above-par?) The way the wicket was, the bowers didn't really have much place to hide. It came down to execution. You can stop the batters but I don't want to be harsh on the bowlers. It was a tough track, not many options we had. (No. 3 position) The original skeleton of our team, Naman was always batting down the order. It's just that in the last game, Ro wasn't available, so we had to push someone up and someone like him has the multi-dimensional game where he can come up as well and can play in the death as well. Once Ro was back, we knew that Naman would have to come down. Tilak was fantastic. Last game, a lot of things happened. People made a lot of things about it but people don't know that he had a very nasty hit previous day. It was a tactical call but because of the finger which he had, the coach just felt that that was a better option that someone fresh can come and do it. Today, he was fantastic. In this sort of games, powerplays are very crucial. Couple of overs we were not able to get in the middle, that put us back in the chase. It comes down to execution in the death - we were not able to play those balls. Having him (Bumrah) makes any team in the world very special. He came in and did his job, very happy to have him. In life, never back down, always see the positive side of it. Go out there, try to play the best cricket of your life and back yourself. We are all backing them, just hope for the result to come our way.
Things were looking gloomy for MI at 99/4 at the end of 12 overs. But, Tilak and Hardik got going and found the boundaries consistently. 58 runs came off the next three overs and that set things up nicely in the death overs. The pressure was still on for both sides and RCB knew that a wicket could tilt things in their favour once again. Bhuvi outsmarted Tilak in the 18th over with a slower one but not before he struck a brilliant fifty. MI were still in with a realistic chance as they needed 28 off 12 balls and with the free-flowing Hardik still out there. But, Hazlewood got rid of Hardik off the first ball of the penultimate over and that brought RCB into the driver's seat. MI needed 19 off the last over and Krunal was entrusted the responsibility with the ball with the frontline pacers having already bowled out. He took three wickets in the final over, finished with his best bowling figures in IPL and took his side to a famous victory. Stick around for the presentations...
23:26 Local Time, 17:56 GMT, 23:26 IST: A lot of ebbs and flows in this game and it almost went down to the wire! These kind of games keep us hooked to the edge of our seats! RCB held their nerves when it mattered the most and have come out trumps. Two brothers on the opposite side were terrific but the elder one has won it for his franchise. Hardik in the dug-out is almost in tears! Contrasting emotions in both the camps! RCB were inserted into bat on a good batting surface and they posted a big total on the board courtesy fifties from Kohli and Patidar and quickfire cameos from Padikkal and Jitesh. In the hindsight, Bumrah's tight spell proved to be the differential factor when all his mates traveled for more than 10 an over. In reply, Rohit and Rickelton took MI off to a quick start but both fell in quick succession. The RCB spinners, Krunal and Suyash, controlled things nicely in the middle phase and kept a check on the scoring rate.
Krunal Pandya to Bumrah, no run, drifting in towards leg-stump, Bumrah swings across the line but misses and is struck on the pads. RCB conquer Wankhede after a gap of 10 years
Jasprit Bumrah, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Krunal Pandya to Naman Dhir, out Caught by Yash Dayal!! Krunal Pandya gets a 4-fer and he is pumped up! That will perhaps be the game for RCB! A low full-toss down leg, Naman Dhir plays a pick-up shot but doesn't get the required power behind it. Dayal at fine leg gets low to catch it. Naman Dhir c Yash Dayal b Krunal Pandya 11(6) [4s-1 6s-1]
Krunal Pandya to Naman Dhir, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Krunal Pandya to Naman Dhir, FOUR, a full ball wide outside off, Naman Dhir throws his bat at it and gets a thick outside edge over short third and it races to the fence. Two more sixes and this game can still go into the Super Over! RCB will hope that Krunal Pandya doesn't bowl an extra
The umpires have a chat with Jitesh Sharma, not sure what is it regarding. Long-off moves straighter
Krunal Pandya to Boult, 1 run, a bouncer on middle and leg, Boult pulls it to deep backward square leg
Krunal Pandya to Boult, wide, oh, Krunal Pandya almost got the hat-trick there! He fires in a full ball down leg, Boult falls over while trying to flick and overbalances. Jitesh Sharma can't collect it cleanly and that allows Boult to get back inside the crease
Trent Boult, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Krunal Pandya to Chahar, out Caught by Tim David!! Chahar backs away and Krunal Pandya follows him with a quick bouncer. He miscues his big hit towards deep mid-wicket. Salt moves to his left and leaps to take it near the fence. The momentum is taking him beyond the ropes so he flicks it back in and David is waiting and takes it safely. Chahar c Tim David b Krunal Pandya 0(1)
Krunal Pandya to Chahar, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
A brilliant tag-team effort in the deep between Salt and David in the deep! It's a clean catch and another one bites the dust!
Krunal Pandya to Santner, out Caught by Tim David!! Krunal Pandya gets a headstart! Good piece of bowling! He keeps it full and wide outside off, away from Santner's arc. The southpaw has to reach out and although he makes good connection with his expansive shot but doesn't get the elevation. TIm David reverse cups it near the fence. Santner c Tim David b Krunal Pandya 8(4) [6s-1]
Krunal Pandya to Santner, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
