Islamabad United won by 102 runs
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Sahibzada Farhan

A positive start to PSL 2025 for the reigning champions who have showed that they mean business. Peshawar need to go back to the drawing board now after two heavy defeats. That's all for today, we'll be back tomorrow.

Shadab Khan: Credit goes to Farhan for the hard work he has done behind the scenes. He played in and out for Pakistan but he was always doing the right things. Hopefully, he'll keep doing well. This was the third game on this track, we wanted to capitalise with our batting. The partnerships between Colin and Farhan, and then Farhan and Salman was great. This wasn't a 240 pitch, but credit goes to our batters. We have 6-7 options as bowlers, so we have somebody to cover it up if a bowler is going for runs. The unsung hero in a game like this is how Nawaz fielded, he came in as a substitute for Sahibzada and did very well. We don't want to keep him just as a substitute fielder, he has done really well too and hopefully he'll get his chances soon.

Sahibzada Farhan | Player of the Match: I was in good form in domestic. I would like to credit Fakhar Zaman for this innings, he's always supported me. The credit goes to Islamabad's management. They trusted me, they told me to maximise my potential on my day. I really liked the sixes I hit off Muqeem and the six over mid-wicket off Linde. This award means a lot to me, first Man of the Match award for me in PSL.

Babar Azam | Peshawar Zalmi Captain - I think we haven't executed our plans, be it batting or the bowling, haven't utilised the powerplay well. We'll have to talk about what we're lacking and come back better. We've a good think tank, lots of experience with legends like Inzy and Mushy, but we need to execute. PSL is a big stage and you're under pressure as a youngster. You can tell them what to do, but they are young and get under pressure. We've a gap now, we'll speak about making improvements going forward in the tournament. (A bit of banter with Shadab to end the interview)

23:43 Local Time, 18:43 GMT, 00:13 IST: A thumping win for the reigning champions who haved downed Peshawar Zalmi by more than 100 runs. The game was done and dusted with Islamabad scored 243 runs in the first innings, as Sahibzada Farhan got a century. In response, the chase never got going as Babar Azam was out early, and so was Saim Ayub. Mohammad Haris provided some fight for the Zalmis as he scored an impressive 87, but never really threatened this big target. Wickets fell around him as none of the other batters could even cross 15. Imad Wasim was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, but Shadab and Ben Dwarshuis were impressive as well. Stick around for the presentations.
