Profile
Australian-born Alex Richard Cusack, was a carpenter by trade until he was granted a professional contract by the Irish Cricket Union in 2009. He began playing at the tender age of eight and was quite successful in grade cricket. In 2003, at the age of 22, Cusack went to Ireland to play club cricket for Clontarf and ended up moving to the country in 2005.

Cusack made his international debut two years later against South Africa in a one-off ODI in 2007. He won the Man of the Match in that game for top-scoring with 36 and picking up 3 for 15, although South Africa ended up winning that game. In the same year, he also made a brilliant First-Class debut, scoring 130 against Scotland in the 2007–08 ICC Intercontinental Cup. In the final of the tournament, he scored an unbeaten 95 along with centurion Niall O'Brien, thus guiding Ireland to a big victory.

He was part of the Irish side in the 2009 World T20 in which his contributions helped Ireland progress to the Super Eight stage. In Ireland's match against Sri Lanka, Cusack almost helped his team to victory by scalping 4/18 to restrict Sri Lanka to 144/9. His bowling figures were the best for Ireland in T20Is. He took eight wickets in five games and was Ireland's joint leading wicket-taker. In January 2010, Cricket Ireland finally awarded him with a full-time contract. He played a crucial role in his side’s progress at the 2011 World Cup and also helped them earn a place in the World T20 in 2012.

Cusack was a part of the squad for the 2014 World T20 but was not able to contribute significantly. He has not been able to prove his effectiveness on flatter tracks but remains an important part of the Irish side in their 2015 World Cup campaign.
