Profile
One of the exploiters of the Bodyline theory, coincidentally against the mastermind himself, Manny Martindale was scarily quick and aggressive like a typical West Indian fast bowler of his times. Not particularly tall, the lack of height meant that Manny could get the ball to skid off the surface and that at his pace wasn’t a comforting thought for batsmen. The Barbadian could also generate disconcerting bounce at will due to his action that was shoulder-heavy. He played just 10 Tests for West Indies but was mighty effective during his short career, emerging as a potent strike force during this period. Such was his significance that West Indies’ success largely depended on his form with the ball. Manny also endured an efficient First-class career and also had successful stints in English league cricket, which helped him increase his popularity as a cricketer. After retirement, Manny spent a considerable time back home in Barbados as a coach.
