Karnataka lad Shivil Kaushik caught everyone's attention with his peculiar bowling action. He first arrived on the scene during the fourth edition of the Karnataka Premier League (KPL), where he was picked up by the Hubli Tigers. Born in September 1995, Kaushik is not the usual left-arm chinaman. He has modeled his action on South Africa's Paul Adams, but without the jump.
"He's a back-of-the-hand bowler. He himself confesses that he doesn't know which one will turn which way," said Anutosh Poll, Kaushik's coach at Hubli Tigers. After a successful outing in the KPL, Kaushik was picked up by Gujarat Lions in the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions for his base price of INR 10 lakhs. Though he didn't feature in the starting XI immediately, Brad Hodge and Suresh Raina gave the youngster plenty of opportunities, he repaid their faith with best figures of 3 for 20 against Kings XI Punjab.
