The Mumbai Indians are building up some steam just at the right time. With that win, they’ve surged ahead and all the way up to third place on the points table. It was probably only a matter of time but with Rohit’s return to form and Bumrah’s return to the side, MI are looking like a fearsome side to reckon with. It was the new-ball bowlers that set it up for them before the rest of the side brought the win home. When firing on all cylinders, MI have got unmatched horsepower and it looks like they just might have started to now. Where do SRH go from here? Well, it’s a tough road ahead. It’ll take something remarkable for them to rise up from the depths of that points table. That’s all we’ve got for you tonight. This is Anurag Hegde, Saurabh Shankar, Abhinav Guha, Mukesh HS and A.V Venkatesh signing off. Take care, and goodbye.
Trent Boult | Player of the Match: Just nice to contribute to a good win. Good game for us. To restrict them to a decent score in their home conditions was wonderful. Just wanted to hit the wicket and make the batsmen play good shots, tried to keep it simple and put pressure on the batsmen. Good to see a couple of catches held today. I’d love to bowl four in a row and let it swing but that doesn’t always happen. Need to always be ready for whenever I’m called upon. Slightly different role for me this year. It’s a low percentage ball for me but as some older bowlers would say, nothing could beat a good yorker. I still love the feeling of competing and getting wickets. It’s a huge tournament, there are hundreds of thousands of bowlers who’d love to do what we’re doing so it’s about not taking it for granted.
Hardik Pandya: Good to have wins behind our back. Glad the boys are taking the momentum in the right way. Rohit, Deepak, Boult, SKY, everyone, always felt that once everyone started clicking, it's going to be a complete combination, overall a wonderful win. Captaincy sometimes is about instincts, I like to see the game and react and not always rely on pre-made plans. (On bowling Puthur) At that point, we wanted them to take a chance and give us a wicket. Young guy, hadn’t played a couple of games, was tough for him and I understand. We can get better in all departments, we discussed about being very clinical and very smart. We’ll take it game by game. We’re very satisfied with this win.
Suryakumar Yadav: (On his wife being at the stadium for this game) She has flow down from Mumbai so what more I need, she was here so we had to win. I think it was really important to come out positive as we were playing good cricket and had to continue the momentum, winning four games on the trot is a great feeling. (On Rohit’s brilliant batting) He made my job really easier, I just had to bat with good tempo and him scoring runs is a really great sign for the team. You keep practising these sweeps in the nets, I want to continue that in the game and I’m really happy with it.
Pat Cummins: Abhinav and Klassy got us to a good total, but we couldn't get through this innings. Needed a guy to really steady the ship. (On the pitch) You have to build your innings here, if you face a few balls you can catch up. (On the competition in the IPL) Difference between our first game where we got 280 odd and then on the same surface we got rolled over. In T20, the margins are also very little, you need to perform on the given day. (On the road ahead) We have a few away games now, it will be about assessing each wicket as quickly as possible. Some days it will be all out attack, some days it will be about weighing our options.
Stats by Roshan Gede:
Rohit in the IPL since 2024
Batting first: 7 inns, 113 runs at 16.14, SR: 143.03
In run-chases: 15 inns, 532 runs at 40.92, SR: 153.31
The last instance of MI registering four or more consecutive wins came during their title winning campaign in 2020 - a five-match streak that was broken in a double Super Over finish against PBKS in Dubai.
Suryakumar Yadav has crossed 25 in each of his nine innings in IPL 2025. There has only been one other instance of more successive 25-plus scores in an IPL edition: Robin Uthappa (10) during KKR’s victorious run in 2014.
22:48 Local Time, 17:18 GMT, 22:48 IST: MI complete the double over SRH this season. The season has just gone from bad to worse for the men in orange. They didn't quite turn up for the contest today. After being asked to bat, they were guilty of going too hard too early. Their batters got out to rash shots one after the other and they found themselves at 35/5 at one stage. It was quite a remarkable rescue act from Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar that eventually got them up to 143 but that was never going to be enough on what really was a fairly decent batting deck. Mumbai came out and got the job done in clinical fashion. Rickelton was dismissed early but Rohit Sharma, who marked his long awaited return to form in the previous game, backed it up with a fluent 70 today. He had Will Jacks for company early before SKY joined him. MI's batters showed how good the surface really was as they cruised home with more than 4 overs to spare.
Zeeshan Ansari to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR, chance goes down and that'll be it! Fraction short on middle, was the wrong-un and Suryakumar Yadav heaved it away towards deep mid-wicket, Nitish Reddy got around to it at deep mid-wicket and it went straight through his hands as he attempted to take it reverse-cupped, he suggested that it went into the lights but it doesn't really matter, MI have been clinical today
Zeeshan Ansari to Suryakumar Yadav, no run, slow and full wide outside off, keps it out of his reach, SKY went for another sweep and missed
Zeeshan Ansari to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR, not quite! Floated up full on off-stump, Suryakumar Yadav leant right forward and slog-swept this, went flat and fast towards deep mid-wicket but bounced well inside the ropes
MI just one hit away now, 6 needed off 29
Zeeshan Ansari to Tilak Varma, 1 run, dragged down short outside off, wrong-un too, Tilak Varma presses back and drags it towards deep mid-wicket, just one
Zeeshan Ansari [3.0-0-27-1] is back into the attack
Eshan Malinga to Suryakumar Yadav, SIX, trademark SKY! Another full-toss on middle-leg, Suryakumar Yadav dispatches it over deep square leg with his inimitable flick, just used the pace and it sailed over
Eshan Malinga to Tilak Varma, 1 run, full on off-stump, driven towards mid-off for a quick single
Tilak Varma, left handed bat, comes to the crease
Eshan Malinga to Rohit, out Caught by Abhishek Sharma!! He's chipped it straight to the man! A wicket against the run of play. Rohit has to depart after another lovely knock. Went for the leg-stump yorker, didn't quite get it into the blockhole but it tailed back in a touch and followed Rohit as he looked to clear his legs, he ended up chipping it straight to mid-wicket while looking to flick it away square. Job well done for Rohit though, he'll be pleased with that innings, it affirms his return to form. Rohit c Abhishek Sharma b Eshan Malinga 70(46) [4s-8 6s-3]
Eshan Malinga to Rohit, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Kiran: Rohit is playing the ball so well here - not relying on power and not just going for it. Today especially, he has just been playing the field, and on the bad balls he has gone for it
Eshan Malinga to Suryakumar Yadav, 1 run, slower short ball outside off, mistimed slap goes towards backward point
Eshan Malinga to Suryakumar Yadav, SIX, buffet ball and Suryakumar Yadav feasts! Juicy full-toss on off-stump, Suryakumar Yadav takes full toll as he dispatches it over long-on for a maximum
